Recent Events

On January 9, 2016 Shannon Chapter travelled to the premises of Lodge McLeod in Coley’s Point (Bay Roberts) where we presented the Mark Master Mason Degree on all available candidates. A wonderful time was had by all and the Chapter enjoyed the grand hospitality from our hosts for lunch.

On Friday and Saturday, May 22 & 23, 2015, Shannon Chapter hosted the 2015 Grand Chapter Convocation. As part of the event we conducted the MMM degree once again to huge success in the Bell Island Mines. Our visitors reported much enthusiam for the event. As part of the celebration, our own Ian Murray was named the new M. Ex. High Priest, Grand Chapter of Newfoundlchand and Labrador.

On Saturday, Sept.20, 2014 Shannon Chapter celebrated the 150th year of Royal Arch Masonry on Newfoundland & Labrador with the conferring of the Holy Royal Arch degre on two candidates in the forenoon and with a celebratory dinner in the evening with guest speaker Dr. Larry Moss. On Saturday, 14th June 2014, our Companions took to the Mines on Bell Isalnd to work the Mark Master Mason degree. This has been a most successful event in the past and lends a particular “working” feeling to the degree. Again this year, the event was well attended with several candidates doing the degree and we now welcome them into the fold of our Royal Arch Masonry in Newfoundland and Labrador. At Grand Chapter May 2014 in Corner Brook, Shannon Chapter presented the Grand Chapter with an exquisite Altar cloth. This was the first “event” in a long line of special occasions marking the 150th anniversary of RAM in Newfoundland & Labrador.  A photo of the presentation can be seen on the “150 Years Celebration” page on this website.

Shannon Chapter No. 1, Eastern Council No. 6 and Beothic Preceptory No. 71  hosted a 'YORK RITE RECOGNITION NIGHT' for Chapter members and their significant others, at FMH on Saturday, February 15th at 6.30 p.m.  This was a Social with a Hot Roast Beef dinner with all the trimmings, catered by members of Lodge Westmoorland.For some time, certain members of the York Rite bodies in the St. John's Metro area, have expressed the desire to bring the bodies into a closer relationship and to promote closer communication between and among them.  At the same time, it was felt that there were, in each of the bodies, individuals who were making indispensable contributions but who were not being sufficiently recognized.The Guest Speaker was Comp. Edward M. Roberts, who as you know, is a member of Chapter.  Presentations were also made at this Social to three individuals who are considered to have made a contribution over and beyond the normal to their respective bodies.
