ROYAL ARCH MASONRY in NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR is observing the One Hundred and Fiftieth year of continuous activities, and Shannon Chapter No 1 hosted the annual Convocation of the Grand Chapter of Newfoundland and Labrador on May 22—23, 2015.

This was a great opportunity for all companions of Shannon Chapter No. 1 to meet and greet other Royal Arch Masons, and to display the hospitality and brotherly love we take pride in.

An Excerpted History of Royal Arch Masonry in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Comp. Nicholas Stabb  orchestrated the formation of a Chapter and on December 23rd. 1864, obtained a Warrant, under the English Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Comp. James Shannon Clift became the First Principal , at the First meeting in 1865, held appropriately in ‘The British Society’s’ Hall, then located on Bond Street..

With the adoption of the American or York Rite Ritual, came a change in the titles of the Officers, undaunted by which, many well known Freemason’s such as William Whiteway, Patrick Tasker, Moses Monroe and more recently, even our Guest Speaker, the Hon. Edward M. Roberts, welcomed this opportunity to obtain more Light.

In 150 years, a great History has developed. It must be stated that while Shannon Chapter, then No. 9 on the Grand Registry of Nova Scotia flourished in St. John’s, other Chapters with their own, important Histories, developed around Newfoundland and Labrador.
